A lot of the taboos about sexuality stem from the church and organized religion. A lot of it stems from Catholicism and the tenet that if you have sex before marriage, you’re a sinner. I think it created a lot of conflict in people’s minds. They became very conscious of nudity because it implied sexuality.

People are entitled to their own beliefs about religion—but I think there was distortion placed on what a lot of people were taught about sex. As a result, many people feel very guilty about their sexuality. I find this sad, because sexuality was one of God’s gifts to us. It is very important not to abuse this gift—as it is with any gift—but at the same time, we are meant to enjoy it.

I think a lot of people need to learn how to get past the guilt and think about sexuality in a more healthy way. I think doing things such as this magazine can be very positive.

Some magazines tend to have very negative portrayals of women or present them simply as objects. Some forms of pornography objectify woman, making them seem as though they exist solely for male pleasure. They don’t seem to care who the woman is as a person.

I think it’s important to portray characteristics of women. It helps for men to go into strip clubs and get to know dancers; the guys realize that most dancers are extremely nice, respectable girls. I also think it’s important to have more magazines out like Dreamweaver that dispel the myths.
